WISATA MONUMEN JUANG - MALANG

Monumen Juang 45 - Malang

Monumen Juang 45, also known as the Arek-Arek Malang Struggle Monument or the Buto Statue, is one of the historical icons of Malang City, located on Jalan Kertanegara, right in front of the Kota Baru Malang Station.

The monument was built on May 20, 1975, to commemorate the struggle of the people of Malang in defending Indonesia's independence from colonial rule.

Architecture and Design

The monument has a unique and striking design. It consists of a giant reclining statue with clenched fists, symbolizing the unstoppable spirit of struggle. Surrounding it are 19 smaller statues representing fighters from various backgrounds, including soldiers, ordinary citizens, mothers, and children, who all contributed to the fight for independence.

The main statue is made of concrete but coated with copper-colored paint, shining brightly under sunlight. The monument measures 10 x 40 meters, with a foundation length of 6.9 meters. The main statue itself is 3.3 meters long and 2 meters high, giving the total height of the monument approximately 5 meters. Around the statue, there is a pool with a fountain, as well as trees and a garden, creating a serene and pleasant environment.

Meaning and Symbolism

Unlike many independence monuments that depict heroes fighting colonizers, Monumen Juang 45 portrays a fallen giant. The toppled Buto represents the seemingly mighty colonizers, while the smaller human figures symbolize the determined and tireless fighters of the Indonesian people. This conveys that even powerful enemies can be overcome by the unwavering spirit of the nation's citizens.

Access and Facilities

Monumen Juang 45 is located in the center of Malang City, making it easily accessible for visitors. Its strategic location also makes it an ideal place to reflect on the nation's struggle for independence. The monument is open 24 hours daily and free of charge.

Besides being a historical tourist attraction, the monument also serves as a symbol of fighting spirit, inspiring younger generations to preserve and continue the nation's independence and unity.
