### The Sad Origin of “Coban Jahe”

During the Dutch colonial era, **38 Indonesian freedom fighters** took refuge in this area. Sadly, they were discovered and shot from above the cliff by Dutch soldiers. All of them perished in the attack. This tragic event inspired the name “Coban Jahe.”

These fallen heroes were later buried at a Heroes’ Cemetery** located about 500 meters before the entrance to the waterfall. A **memorial monument** called *“Tugu Makam Kali Jahe”* marks the site.

The story behind Coban Glotak's name is as interesting as its name. Locals say the place is called "Glotak" because of the sound of the waterfall. The water rushing over the rocks produces a loud booming sound. In Javanese, this sound is often called "glotak glotak" (chattering).

That is why this waterfall is known as Coban Glotak.

However, when tourists are at the waterfall, they usually hear the roar of rushing water. They may not hear the splashing of water hitting the rocks. This could be because the rock beneath the waterfall has been eroded, forming a pool.

                            

The Trail to Coban Glotak

For those with an adventurous spirit, Coban Glotak is an ideal destination. The hike to the waterfall is quite long, but that doesn't stop adventurers from reaching it. The views are truly breathtaking. One minor challenge on the journey is the rocky and dirt path. To reach the destination, tourists need to maintain good physical fitness. They sometimes have to cross a fast-flowing river. Although not deep, the current is strong enough to flow gracefully between the rocks. Even during the day, the weather is not too hot, as the forest remains quite shady. Preparing your belongings is crucial, as there are not many vendors near the waterfall. To navigate the watery and slippery forest terrain, always wear comfortable clothing and waterproof, non-slip footwear.

Swimming and Enjoying the Freshness of the Natural Waterfall

Upon arriving at the waterfall, take a moment to enjoy the cool water. Tourists can swim in the pool just a few meters in front of the waterfall. There's a small, shallow area where people often sit and relax. The water is not only refreshing but also calming, flowing gently from the waterfall into the river.

Sitting on the rocks and soaking in the pool is very enjoyable.

The serenity of the pool makes swimming more relaxing and enjoyable. You can also listen to the sound of the water trickling over the rocks. If you don't want to sit in the pool, you can still soak your feet in it.

What else can you do except take photos? Tourists often use the waterfall as a great opportunity to take pictures. The view is amazing, and the nearby forests and rivers are just as beautiful.

If you're lucky, you might see a beautiful rainbow under the waterfall.  A soft, colorful arc appears between the falls. You can even capture a clear photo of this rainbow.

Beautiful Rainbow Under the Waterfall

Coban Glotak boasts a powerful waterfall. It reaches 80 meters in height, dropping from the summit into the pool below. The sound of the waterfall is so loud and cacophonous, it attracts anyone who wants to get closer. The waterfall appears incredibly white due to the force of the water.

Once you reach the pool and it flows into the river, the water appears clear and clean. In the pool below the waterfall, the water still appears to be rushing. Visitors should avoid standing directly under the waterfall, as contact with the water can be quite painful. If you want to play in the water, you can do so in the pool or river a few meters in front of the waterfall.

The waterfall's walls are made of rock, initially black, and visible when wet. However, on the side where the waterfall flows, the water appears green due to the moss that clings to it. On the other side, you can also see vines and shrubs covering the water's surface. The combination of white water and greenery creates a vibrant appearance.

Trekking Challenge to Coban Glotak

The travel to Coban Glotak requires caution. From the stopping zone, guests must explore a reasonably challenging way and slip carefully. A few slows down offering nutrition and drinks are found along the path. Caution is vital when exploring the earth way and crossing unguarded cliffs. On more extreme and dangerous segments, the administration has introduced ropes and security railings to ease the travel. After crossing this way, guests will reach a waterway with clear water. Use caution when venturing on the rocks to avoid slipping. Upon entry at the waterfall, the magnificence of Coban Glotak is quickly clear, making all your endeavors beneficial.

Walking in the Waterfall Area

If you want to relax for a moment, you can enjoy a walk near the waterfall. There's a hill in front of the waterfall where you can sit and enjoy the food and drinks you brought from home. Enjoying your meal while taking in the view of the waterfall and the cool weather is certainly enjoyable.

What else can you do but take photos? Tourists can use the waterfall as a photo opportunity. The scenery is breathtaking, and the surrounding forests and rivers are no less captivating.

If you're lucky, you might even witness a beautiful rainbow beneath the waterfall. A faint, mejikuhibiniu-colored arc is etched between the waterfalls. You can even take a clear photo of this rainbow.

Location of Coban Glotak Malang

This waterfall is located on Coban Glothak Highway, in the Forest Area, Dalisodo Village, Wagir District, Malang Regency. It's approximately 16 kilometers from the center of Malang City. It takes at least 50 minutes to drive to reach the waterfall.
